The former England spinner Monty Panesar recently said Indian talismanic batsman, Virat Kohli has been a little scared due to the trust issues he has with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Former England spinner Monty Panesar talks about Indian cricketer Virat Kohli
Last year, the star India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli stepped down from T20I captaincy which led to a big captaincy controversy in Indian cricket. Later on, Kohli was sacked as ODI captain by the BCCI after he left the T20I job.
So recently in an interview with a renowned news agency, former England spinner Monty Panesar was asked about what was the impact of Virat Kohli leaving the post of captaincy on his batting. To which is replied:
“Watching his behavior and everything in England, I asked myself is that really the Virat Kohli? It was a bit over-exerted. It’s not him. It wasn’t really him. His celebration and sledging showed that he was under some pressure,” he exclaimed.
“It’s not the Virat Kohli we know. He has been slightly scarred by some of the trust issues that he had with the BCCI people. How he was treated, and how he spoke in the media about it. Internally, I think, there were obviously differences. Virat was probably let down by that. He still feels a little bit of mental pressure from that,” he added.
Monty Panesar said “India will definitely need Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup”
In the same interview with the news channel, Monty Panesar shared that Virat Kohli should undoubtedly be in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 team.
“Virat should be in the squad. He should be traveling to Australia because you need Virat in the big global tournaments. He’s an ambassador of the game. So, you need him there. Whether he is playing or not playing, he should be there as a squad member,” He asserted.
Former England spinner also revealed that India head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma should quickly decide whether Kohli should be in India’s World Cup playing XI or just the 15-member team.
“Dravid and Rohit desperately want to win the World Cup. They want to play big roles and take the team to World Cup wins. This is something Virat couldn’t (do). They have only three months to go. They’ve got to think with their heads right. Is Virat Kohli part of our eleven or is he part of our 15?” He added.
“They need to decide that very, very quickly. There are a lot of youngsters who can adapt to the conditions in India, but in Australia, you will definitely need Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup,” He continued.
Conclusion
Let’s see what happens next. Even if Rohit Sharma and Sourav Ganguly try to persuade Virat Kohli, it will be completely Kohli’s decision whether he wants to be the captain of T20 or not. We will have to wait for an update. Till then, you can check out more news related to cricket.
