Ganguly Invited Me To Ipl Finals,’ Says Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Ramiz Raja, Explains Reason For Not Attending

Recently, Ramiz Raja, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), explained that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly had invited him to the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on two separate occasions.

However, he could not attend it due to possible backlash from Pakistan cricket fans and the sour political relationship between India and Pakistan. Let’s have a peek at what more Ramiz Raja has to say.

Ramiz Raja Reveals Why He Did Not Attend Ipl Final Match

On June 24, that was Friday, Ramiz Raja was present at a conference held at the Gaddafi Stadium. He revealed that he decided not to visit the match IPL despite being invited by Former cricketer Saurabh Ganguly. He didn’t want any backlash from Pakistan cricket fans as there is a rivalry between them and Indian cricket fans.

Furthermore, Ramiz Raja said that attending the Indian Premier League finals could have improved the Indian and Pakistan cricket relationship. There have been political tensions between both countries for a few years. So knowing that fact, he also mentioned that it prevented him from taking this step.

Apart from that, the Pakistan Cricket Board chief also revealed that he had a talk with Ganguly about making a difference. These two are among the few retired cricketers who are not only a part but also in charge of their respective cricket boards.

Here is what Ramiz Raja said about this:

“See, I’ve had conversations with Sourav Ganguly on the sidelines. I keep telling him, there are 2-3 cricketers who are currently the board presidents or chairman. If we can’t bring a difference, what’s the point?”

Ramiz Raja added, “He (Ganguly) also has his concerns, unfortunately. On two different occasions, he invited me to IPL; once in Dubai and once this year,” he added.

He continued, “I was confused about whether or not to attend. I thought if I went there, fans will not spare me. There might be a cricketing sense to it (attending the IPL), yes, but right now, there are some cracks that need to be filled because it’s a political game.” Below we have shared a Twitter video link, where you can watch Ramiz Raja’s interview.

Furthermore, Ramiz Raja shared, “If it were a cricket game, this would have been solved in two minutes. See, we secured the hosting rights for 2025 Champions Trophy, which means we have tried to break that influence and people have started recognizing that Pakistan’s team and fans deserve such world-class events.”

Also, Ramiz Raja spoke on Pakistan hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy “People have started recognizing that Pakistan’s team and fans deserve such world-class events.” Here is another Twitter video link you can watch.

Well, It is true that since 2013, India and Pakistan have not competed against each other in bilateral series. Besides, Pakistani players got banned from playing in the IPL. Sources say that these two teams are set to face each other at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Do not forget to check out more cricket and other sports-related news on our website.
